Where our dates come from
- England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland: the official GOV.UK bank holidays data, published by the UK Government under the Open Government Licence.
- Republic of Ireland: calculated from the public holidays listed in the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997, as explained by Citizens Information.
How we keep them up to date
Every day, our system downloads the latest GOV.UK data and checks it carefully before using it. If a new one-off bank holiday is announced, or a date moves, the site updates automatically – usually within 24 hours of GOV.UK.

GOV.UK currently publishes official dates up to the end of 2028.
Provisional dates for future years
For years the government hasn't published yet, we calculate dates using the same rules set in law – such as "the last Monday in August" or "the next weekday when Christmas falls on a weekend". We test these rules against every year GOV.UK has published, and they match exactly. These dates are always labelled provisional, because one-off holidays can be added or dates moved.
